About NCC
The National Chemical Company (NCC) was founded in 1969 by Denis Looney. In 1987, Denis’s son Alan Looney took over as Managing Director and has guided the company ever since. Alan’s son, Ross Looney continued the family tradition and joined NCC in 2024 as Chief Operating Officer. Originally focused on traditional industrial products, NCC expanded its reach in the 1990’s and now has a portfolio that services a full range of markets including; pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, medical polymers, food ingredients and industrial.
A family-owned company, NCC has offices in Ireland, UK and the USA and trades globally. In 2008, a joint venture between NCC and Associated Plastics of Ireland Ltd. formed the company Innovative Polymer Compounds (IPC). Based in Kilbeggan, County Westmeath, IPC specialises in compounding medical grade polymers.
Management Team
Our Management Team consists of Managing Director, Alan Looney, Chief Operating Officer, Ross Looney, as well as Department heads, Mary Mulligan, Quality & Compliance, Cara Kelly, Finance, Julie Reynolds, Sales & Customer Services, Tom Mc Keon, Operations and James Bliss, Sales UK.
Alan worked for four years with Exxon Oil Company in Ireland before joining NCC in 1985. He has led the Irish Association of Chemicals & Ingredients as Chairman or President since 2000. He was also President of the European Association of Chemical Distributors (FECC) from 2006 to 2008 and currently is on the board of the International Chemical Trade Association. Alan serves as President of the Pluschem European Speciality Chemical Distribution Alliance, of which NCC was a founding member in 2000.

Ross joined NCC in January 2024 as Chief Operating Officer. He has a Bachelor of Commerce from UCD and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2019 following 4 years with KPMG in Dublin. He subsequently spent 4 years working in the Risk Management functions of DCC Plc in Dublin and Alliance Healthcare in London overseeing financial, operational, compliance & IT risk across their networks of global distribution businesses.
Ross Looney
Chief Operating Officer
Mary has over 30 years of experience in the chemical industry in the areas of Logistics and Quality and Compliance. Mary manages a team of 4 and the team ensures that the Quality Management System is maintained, that NCC is in compliance with the regulatory aspects of our products and services and that we keep abreast of new and changing regulations. Mary and the team are also responsible for ensuring that the customer service aspect of quality and compliance requests are handled.

Cara has been with NCC since 2008 when she joined the accounts payable team. In 2017, she became the Accounts Team Lead and is now the Financial Controller, overseeing the finance function including managing banking, insurance and audit relationships. In addition, Cara oversees the IT function of NCC.

Julie joined NCC in 2013, bringing with her 25 years of extensive experience. At NCC, Julie manages the Internal Sales and Customer Service team, ensuring seamless operations and exceptional customer satisfaction. She holds diplomas in Business Studies, Purchasing and Material Management.

Sales & Customer Service Manager
Tom holds Diplomas in Manufacturing Management and Project Management. Prior to joining NCC in 2006 he held roles in Production, Materials and Logistics Management in a multinational print & packaging company. Tom manages a team of five people in NCC.

Operations Manager
James has over 20 years experience in the chemical distribution industry selling into the pharma, fine chemical, food, I&I and the oil and Gas sectors. Whilst working in the industry he has developed significant expertise in operations, site management, product and supplier management.
